There would be no possibility of restoring the Mount Beacon Incline Railway without the diligent efforts of Scenic Hudson. The
largest organization dedicated to conserving the Hudson Valley's irreplaceable natural resources, it has created or enhanced more
than 50 public parks and preserves and protected more than 28,000 acres since its founding in 1963.
Scenic Hudson’s victories often
are achieved in partnership with governments, fellow land trusts and committed volunteers. Today it’s engaged in Saving the Land That
Matters Most, the most ambitious land preservation initiative in the valley’s history. This collaborative campaign seeks to protect
lands throughout the region of the highest scenic, agricultural and ecological significance.
Mount Beacon Park, home of the
Incline Railway, is one of Scenic Hudson’s most beautiful parks. Its 234 acres protect remnants of the railway’s powerhouse at the
summit and its station house, where passengers boarded, at the mountain’s base. Lands surrounding the station house ruins were conserved
by Scenic Hudson in 1998 to halt a proposed residential subdivision. Over the years Scenic Hudson has protected more than 2,000 acres,
including Mount Beacon and Fishkill Ridge. Besides providing stunning views, this land conserves extensive critical habitat that supports
many important and threatened species. In 2002 the Mount Beacon Incline Railway Restoration Society and Scenic Hudson entered into
a cooperative management agreement to work jointly in safeguarding the historic and natural resources on this property.
Mount
Beacon Park is one of four parks Scenic Hudson has created in Beacon. By providing exciting opportunities to connect with nature and
the Hudson River, they enhance residents' quality of life and contribute to the Hudson Valley's $4.7 billion tourism industry that
sustains 80,000 jobs.
